International Cat Day

Do you want to know what one of my cats did to me today? On International Cat Day?

About gave me a heart attack this morning! When I went to be last night, Franklin was underneath the blanket and sheets with me…when I got up at 4am, he was nowhere in the house.

Apparently my 16 year old daughter has a hole in her bedroom screen that I knew nothing about, because her door is always closed 24/7 to keep her hamster safe from the cats. She took her hamster to her Dad’s with her Sunday, so her door has been open.

I do not know exactly where he was, and my daughter and I looked all over the neighborhood, but he came back on his own.

I am now actively shopping for GPS trackers for both of my jerk cats; I cannot emotionally handle even one more escape 😦

Kitties for Sale?

What? Well; one kitty. My awesome kitty breeder has a contest going on with a deep discounted price on an adorable Hairless Sphynx.

Take a look at this beauty!

That One Day; When Franklin Ran Away…

…yes, you read that correctly. Except I don’t know if I would exactly call it “running away”, as much as he saw his opportunity, and went for it.

I cannot even begin to describe the sheer terror I felt when I pulled up in front of my home, and saw the door open a couple of inches. I knew before I got out of my vehicle that this was going to be bad.

Benjamin was sitting on the front step, meowing. I told him to get in the house, and he ran inside and just kept meowing. I ran upstairs, and started pulling blankets off beds, calling Franklin.

I already knew. And I started crying.

My youngest left the front door open when she went to school at 8:30 in the morning. We just got new front doors a month ago. I even went out the door and pulled it shut behind me; only to turn around and see it never shut.

Now; before we defend her…there is a HUGE note on the inside of the door stating, shut the door behind you! make sure it is shut! Lock the door just to be safe! I put this up as soon as I realized the door would not shut on it’s own as we were used to.

She had a house key…and I send her a message every single morning before she leaves for school to lock up, and check the door!

Fast forward…I have 4 people prowling the neighborhood, I blew up Facebook, printed 100 pictures that my 14 year old put our number on the back, went to the Humane Society to file a lost report…

And I cried.

This day was already 58 degrees here in Michigan at 2:30 pm when I knew he got out; and getting colder.

My 11 year old who left the door opened seemed less than concerned, which burned my ass!

I found him; he had been out for about 6 hours. And the culprit said “At least you found him!” with a nervous laugh…

…and I chewed her a new asshole.

Benjamin is content, because his Franklin made it home.

Living with Hairless Cats…

…or as us hairless cat owners say; Nekkid Kitties!.

It is great fun, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. But there are some things you need to know.

  1. They act like dogs
  2. They talk. A LOT
  3. They have to be warm
  4. They sleep under the covers with you (next to skin is what they prefer; they climb in my shirts as soon as I sit down after work).
  5. They have to go to the bathroom with you. And be in the same room when you shower.
  6. They need baths
  7. They need sweaters (that is the BEST part)
  8. They are not outdoor cats (pay that much for a cat; see if you let it outside…)
  9. They eat a lot. A LOT.
  10. They stink when they use the litter box (my cats have made us all exit the house on occasion; no joke!)
  11. You need to trim their nails (please do not declaw….would you like someone ripping out your fingernails?)
  12. They are the most loyal, affectionate friend you will ever find.

Sitting on the heater vent. If there is warm air blowing; that is where they are at!

Welcome Home Franklin

Finally, I got to make the 6+ hour drive to get my newest nekkid kitty. I was still nameless as of this morning, but my boyfriend suggested Franklin. Hmmm, I thought, I kind of like that.

10 minutes later, as I am still thinking about the name, I finally realized what he was getting at…Benjamin, and Franklin. That made me love it even more, being a ridiculous history nut. I had to see his face in person to be sure, but it was a brilliant fit. He looks like a Franklin. And bonus, I can call them both at the same time; “Benjamin Franklin, come here!” Too funny 🙂
